United Roots is participating in Urban Peace Movement’s Silence The Violence Day Peace Festival at Oakland Unity High School on June 1st, 1-4pm.
The festival is a day to build community and engage people in “peace building practices”. There will be music, food, speakers and performances. We recognize that people and organizations in Oakland are working hard to create peaceful solutions and we want everyone to share their tools and campaigns!
At the festival there will be “Demo’s”, not tabling, by youth organizations and community groups. Our hope is that young people throughout Oakland and the Bay Area participate in 15-20 minute demonstrations, up to 3 times throughout the festival. The Demo’s will impart some kind of peace making tool to participants. There will be long breaks between demo’s with food and performances, and plenty of time for people to network.
