Hack the Hood engages young people from Oakland interested in getting web and tech training. Hack the Hood participants will earn real-world, resume-worthy experience by providing Oakland’s small businesses with Internet Services and Marketing Support with guidance and mentorship from skilled trainers in a matter of weeks.
Hack the Hood started as a partnership between United Roots and Oakland Local, with support from many other local businesses and agencies. Now Hack the Hood is it’s own organization, and after three successful trainings at United Roots the program is being replicated throughout the Bay Area. The 6 week training program trains youth (ages 16-24) from underserved communities of color in web tech skills that support job readiness and employability.
