Gameheads program is recruiting!
Gameheads, a tech justice program with a game development focus, is recruiting for the new year! We will be launching our next training program in January 2016, and we are looking for young people ages 15-24 to join our current cohort of youth gamers interested in working with aspiring video game developers, artists, beat makers, poets and storytellers, code enthusiasts and system heads. The program is currently housed at United Roots’ Youth Impact Hub located at 2781 Telegraph ave. in Oakland, California.
Gameheads is a program fiscally sponsored by United Roots that prepares youth (ages 15-24) for a career in the tech and electronic entertainment industries. Through our Game Development program, participants of Gameheads will learn how to create, code and design games, building skills across a variety of disciplines from visual art, creative writing, design, programming, program management, idea creation, sound design, animation, game theory and history.
DevOps Program: Building Tech Career Pathways through Development & Operations
Also, in January, we will be offering our first ever DevOps Program led by Oakland IT Company, TekPerfect. The program will create careers pathways, facilitate new entrepreneurship opportunities, and cultivate a pool of tech talent that will rival any Silicon Valley-based startup. The Program, led by TekPerfect, an innovative technology consulting firm that specializes in complete (IT) solutions, will fulfill a critical need by providing youth the opportunity to train with industry professionals. By partnering with successful programs such as Gameheads that have well-established connections in the community, TekPerfect will expand the skill sets of these youth participants by building on these programs and engaging youth in real-world consulting projects.
No experience is necessary to apply to Gameheads’ Game Development and DevOps Programs, but an interest in design, programming, play and a curiosity for what makes video games and computers work is encouraged and sought after. We are especially interested in self-starters, creatives, and people who can take initiative and demonstrate maturity and responsibility. If you are interested in applying to our program you can fill out an APPLICATION FORM HERE. Read more below about our program goals and other details.
We are really excited for 2016 and are looking forward to seeing what our next group of ‘heads can do. We work hard at Gh and we also like to have fun. We can’t wait to work with young, amazing talent and to see what they can bring to the East Bay community.
