Konda Mason is the Co-Founder and CEO of Impact Hub Oakland, a beautiful inspiring co-working space that supports and connects socially engaged change makers and social entrepreneurs in creating community and acquiring the skills they need to bring their projects to life as they create a better world. She is a co-creator and co-facilitator of The Well Being In Business Lab – Oakland, a project of business leaders deepening their commitment to inner transformation and using their business for more positive impact. Konda’s love for the city of Oakland is the driver for the work she brings and she is an inspired leader for many in the community.
Calvin is the current Health Equity Fellowship Director – a new partnership program between The California Endowment and Greenlining Institute. As Health Equity Fellowship Director, he coordinates special projects at The California Endowment designed for emerging public health leaders committed to creating equitable health outcomes for all Californians through research, policy, advocacy and philanthropy. His commitment for social justice has led him to field of organizing, education, and youth leadership development. After he received his BA in Political Science at LaGrange College, Georgia – where he also engaged in cultural and campus based organizing on issues of racial justice, peace promotion and civic engagement. After graduating in 2004, Calvin taught in Mississippi and Alabama in communities he called home during his high school years. He received his MPA at City University of New York, Baruch College School of Public Affairs. Calvin currently resides Oakland – he engages in cultural and social media, and building new roots in the town he now calls home.
Galen is Co-Founder and Co-Director of United Roots, the first “green” youth center in Oakland, California, and the location for the first “Youth” Impact Hub in the global network of over 50 Hub’s (a project in partnership with Impact Hub Oakland). He is a long-time community organizer, youth educator and media producer, and has worked with organizations like Men’s Story Project and the Y-Step collective for racial equity. He was also Co-Founder and Director of the Turf Unity Music Program and a Co-founder of the Art in Action organization. He has over sixteen years of experience developing campaigns, projects, and programs in partnership with local and national communities, including The California Endowment’s Alliance for Boys & Men of Color. He is also a non-profit consultant and manages media production for projects like filmmaking, graphic design and music production.
Joel is a leading author and voice on the greening of mainstream business. He is executive editor GreenBiz.com and other websites, events and business information services produced by GreenBiz Group Inc., of which he is co-founder and chairman. He also hosts GreenBiz.com’s annual State of Green Business Forums, the annual GreenBiz Innovation Forum, and other events. Joel is author of more than a dozen books, including his latest, Strategies for the Green Economy (2008), along with GreenBiz.com’s annual “State of Green Business” report. The Associated Press has called him “The guru of green business practices.”
Lanese is a creative and all around social-entrepreneur enthusiast. She is the Operations Manager at Oakland Rising. Prior to Oakland Rising she worked for the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights as their Operations and Administrative intern while pursuing a M.B.A. in Sustainable Enterprise at Dominican University of California. Lanese’s passion for systems and processes led to her decision that her role in the “movement” was capacity building for organizations doing innovative work in the social justice field. Currently, she is in the process of developing a consulting firm that will provide strategic business planning for non-profits that seek to find sustainable revenue generating streams to support their work.
Sean is the Executive Producer for Good News Oakland and is the Online Producer for All HipHop.com, which is one of the top 5000 online content websites globally. Sean has worked with musical innovators Jay-Z, P-Diddy, Beyonce and Usher, Corporations such as Starbust, Pepsi, Mt. Dew, and Record Labels such as Interscope, Roc-A-Fella Records, and Universal. He is also highly recognized in the community in his role as Co-Chair of the City of Oakland Cultural Affairs Commission and for his innovative internet based TV network, “Good News In Oakland.”
Sheri Shuster is a Board Member at United Roots and is on the Advisory Board at Barefoot Lawyers International. In the past, she was an Associate Director of Development at Covenant House California, West Coast Finance Director at Tom Lantos for Congress Committee and Constituent Service Staff for U.S. Congressman Tom Lantos. Her education includes Stanford University, University of Washington and University of California, Los Angeles. She has an MPA.
