United Roots Partners with Oakland Leaf to do Oakland Peace Camp this Summer
This summer United Roots is excited to announce a partnership with Oakland Leaf. Every year Oakland Leaf conducts an annual Peace Camp in the summer for youth ages 12-18 in Oakland, California. The United Roots Music Director, Clemente Pena, will be helping facilitate the camp again this year, and four young adults from the United Roots music program will have the opportunity to get paid to assist with arts instruction at the camp. During the last week of Peace Camp the youth from the camp will come to United Roots to record their music and finish their music projects utilizing United Roots’ solar powered music studios.
Oakland Leaf’s Oakland Peace Camp, OPC, is a free* three-week summer camp for youth ages 12 – 18 that utilizes an arts and STEM-focused (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) curriculum to further the goals of youth empowerment, positive identity formation, community transformation through non-violent means, and creative expression in a safe, supportive, and fun environment. OPC has nurtured the development of Oakland youth since its inception in 2003. *One-time administrative processing fee applies (no one turned away for lack of funds).
