Turf Unity Multimedia Class Report-Back: Check Out the New Music Video & Behind the Scenes Short Film

During the 2011 Summer United Roots (Oakland’s Peapod Adobe Youth Voices Academy) offered a multimedia class for youth ages 14-24. The class trained youth in the basics of music production, graphic design and video production to do projects like making short films, music videos, online promotional graphics, and fliers.  The theme of the class was Turf Unity: Rebuilding the Hood, and the final project was a Turf Unity music video that was screened at the Urban Peace Movement Turf Summit in East Oakland. Students in the class created a number of media projects, including a short film that documented the “behind the scenes” aspect of the making of the music and music video during the class. These video projects were made possible in part by the Bill Graham Supporting Foundation. Check out a couple of the videos made in the class below:
