“Swagn’ 4 Justice: Youth & Community Rally for Quality Jobs” at Occupy Oakland

The rally was organized by Oakland Youth from Urban Peace Movement in partnership with Revive Oakland (EBASE) that took place on Tuesday, November 1st from 4:30-6:00pm at Oscar Grant Plaza (14th & Broadway, Oakland) in solidarity with Occupy Oakland. Performers at the event included Askara X (a United Roots youth artist), Turf Feinz, DJ Fuse, Queen Deelah, J-Milli-on (a United Roots staff member) and more. At the rally youth organizers advocated for Quality Jobs to created as part of the redevelopment on the land that used to be the Army Base (near West Oakland) with Local Hire and Ban the Box. United Roots (Oakland’s Green Youth Art & Media Center) is a partner and ally of Urban Peace Movement and enables disenfranchised youth to engage with the green economy, performing arts, and digital media in ways that educate, empower, inspire, and transform lives.
