Oakland’s Green Youth Art & Media Center is a base for creative and economic empowerment in Oakland that supports personal, professional and community development. They serve youth impacted by violence and poverty through innovative programs in the arts, media production, and environmental sustainability. The first of its kind in the country, the Center is a collaborative initiative between several veteran youth organizations including Art in Action, Grind for the Green, Colored Ink, and the Community Rejuvenation Project. Open daily from 2pm-8pm, GYAMC boasts a ton of programs in their eco-conscious space, which includes bamboo flooring, recycled building materials, an aquaponics garden and eco-literacy training.
Sungevity was founded in 2007 with the goal of convincing homeowners that solar is affordable, a good investment, and a viable way to reduce carbon emissions. Sungevity’s team is led by President and CXO Danny Kennedy, a long time social entrepreneur and former manager of Greenpeace Australia and Pacific. In 2001, Kennedy led Greenpeace’s California Clean Energy Campaign, which helped create the current California Solar Initiative.

“We have been installing solar in two hemispheres as part of the Global Work Party with 350.org – first on the President’s residence in the Maldives and today on the Green Youth Arts Center here in our home town of Oakland. Sungevity is very proud to be showing how easy it is to install solar, save money and create jobs with these inspiring young people from our own fair city. Shine on!”
